A huge thank you to all our brothers and sisters who continue to provide vital services to our Nevada communities. From health care workers, correctional officers and staff, custodial workers and highway maintenance workers, to all of you who provide social services- thousands of state employees are on the front lines of ensuring Nevadans across the state get the services and support needed to stay safe and healthy.

AFSCME organizers continue to reach out to Local 4041 members to make sure you are ok and flag any needs for our union reps. Many members have identified issues with workplace safety, teleworking and paid administrative leave. Our union reps have been able to clarify some of these issues and are still working through individual cases. Our organizers will continue to reach out and answer questions to the best of their abilities. Everything is changing day-to-day and we all need to stay flexible.

Many AFSCME members have shared that the state has not fully addressed safety concerns at their workplaces during these times. We’ve sent Governor Sisolak a letter requesting a statewide safety procedure be implemented for all open state offices. Even with cleaning supplies and safety equipment in shortage statewide, we are requesting state leadership to prioritize the safety of state employees.

On 4/1/2020, all Nevadans were ordered to Stay at Home. Nevadans are authorized to continue patronizing essential businesses, reporting to work as an essential worker, and participate in outdoor activities so long as they practice aggressive social distancing. Stay-at-home/shelter in place orders have been extended to May 15.
