When the state wanted to implement changes to our working conditions without our input, AFSCME members fought back. We spoke out and our collective voices were heard.

After two rounds of negotiations with representatives from Governor Sisolak’s office, we came to agreement on reinstating merit pay retroactively to July 1, 2020, reducing furloughs to six days a year starting in 2021 and protecting an additional 28 workers from layoffs.

On July 19, both chambers of the Nevada state legislature passed an amended fiscal year 2021 budget. And on July 20, Governor Sisolak signed the amended budget into law.

This budget fight has proven that the actions we take away from the bargaining table are more important than what we negotiate. Because of actions you have taken, we avoided the disastrous cuts like the ones we lived through over the last 12 years.

This is worker power. This is the AFSCME difference.
